Passing the Torch to Our Next Monitor Team
The Monitor team at UCS holds a pivotal and respected position within the school’s student leadership framework. Comprised of dedicated individuals who have successfully navigated a rigorous application process, these students truly embody the school’s core values. They serve as essential role models, supportive mentors, and constant sources of inspiration for the entire school community. At the pinnacle of this esteemed group stand the Captains of Monitors, who guide and lead by example. Today, in a significant ceremony, the Monitors of 2024 will gracefully hand over their responsibilities and badges to the next generation of student leaders, marking a moment of transition and continued excellence.
Outside on the steps of Frognal, we took a chance to speak to our now Former Captains, Finn and Lizey and their succeeding team of Captains and Vice Captains on Montiors. Here’s what they had to say.
How would you define your time as Captain of Monitors?
“Cooperative. Our relationship as Monitors has been very complementary to each other. We’ve all formed a great relationship, both a working one and a familial one, to do this role. Everyone has given a lot, and it made a huge difference to our role as captains.”
Words of wisdom for your successors?
“We have two main pieces of advice; firstly, Everything goes so fast, if you don’t grasp everything and let it take it with you, you won’t find the fulfilment in the role, you won’t know what moments are the ones to remember. Be present for all the moments. Secondly, even if you don’t feel like you know what you’re doing, no one will tell, so take it with confidence. Otherwise, you will wait for the role to become less scary, so my advice is to get up and just go for it and do your best.”
What made you want to apply to be a Monitor?
Captain, Luka, “The school has always been a place that has enabled me to grow as a person and has invested in my interests. I wanted to give back to the school and my peers.”
Vice Captain, Sophia “I wanted to develop my leadership skills and take on a bigger role within the school community.”
What do you hope to gain from this experience as a Monitor?
Captain Avantika: “I want to improve my communication skills and build stronger, closer relationships with both staff and students across the school.”
Vice Captain, Charlie, “To strengthen my relationships with staff and pupils. I want to have completed my role, having supported them, and have an enjoyable experience as a member of the team.”
