Co-curricular Activities

An incredibly popular club where boys learn to cook independently, following a recipe. Pupils learn about all the various cooking methods and utensils with an emphasis on being independent in all aspects of working in a kitchen.

Discover the joy of creating with clay in our exciting club led by an award-winning ceramic artist and Old Gower of UCS Jack Casey. Clay Club is an exciting opportunity for boys at UCS to learn a new skill and craft, developing their critical thinking and fine motor skills. Most importantly, Clay Club offers a play for boys to explore and express their creativity and have fun, with the therapeutic medium of clay.

The Big Band rehearses in separate sections for the first half of each term, then as a whole band twice weekly after half term. With regular performance opportunities (at least three concerts per year) and potential for competitions, the Big Band provides a stimulating environment for young musicians to develop their skills and confidence. Open to all saxophone and brass players once they have secured enough notes to play a foundation part.

In the LAMDA Drama Clubs we work on Acting and Verse & Prose pieces for Grade 1 and Grade 2 certification. Students develop their performance skills in a relaxed, fun and collaborative environment run by an expert theatre director & facilitator.

Arts & Crafts Club is open to Years 3-6 and focuses on developing a range of artistic skills through creative projects. The children have worked on sketching skills and on adapting their plant designs for posters. They have also explored abstract sculpture using clay and wire. Our most recent project, inspired by the Swiss sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti, has taught the pupils how to model human-like figures out of Modroc.

In this hands on-coding experience, pupils jump into the developer’s seat and are encouraged to use their imagination to bring their creative ideas to life through programming. We start with the fundamentals and basic building of code. As the term progresses, pupils will advance to more complex projects, creating everything from interactive games to digital stories. Along the way, they’ll explore key concepts like algorithms and problem-solving, all while learning to think creatively and critically about how technology works.
