Co-curricular Activities

Taking place at the Cumberland Tennis and Squash club weekly and limited to 16 players, Squash Club provides pupils the chance to develop agility, coordination, and racket skills while having fun on the court with friends. Led by experienced coaches, pupils receive personalised guidance and support to improve their game.

Each Monday to Thursday, boys have the opportunity to stay at school until 5pm, working on their homework in a quiet, supportive library environment alongside their friends. Once homework is completed, they can explore the library, enjoy a good book, or chat with classmates in a relaxed, social setting. Both pupils and parents love this club, which provides a convenient childcare solution until 5pm from Monday to Thursday. Homework club is included in the school fee, offering a seamless extension to the school day.

Join a professional stage actor and children’s author with Penguin Random House books, as each week he performs a dramatic introductory reading of a new book and leads an exploratory discussion into how each story entertains, educates and inspires. This is a great way for your child to discover new genres and widen their taste in reading through a wide range of children’s literature encountered, and find which author, genre or protagonist is going to set their reading habit alight.

Our Football Clubs aim to encourage a love of the game while developing core footballing skills. Under the guidance of FA-qualified coaches, pupils will learn essential techniques and teamwork through fun and engaging drills. This term pupils will be introduced to exciting new skills and equipment to challenge and motivate them. Even when the weather isn’t ideal, learning continues with classroom sessions on football tactics and history.

Game Design Club utilises the platform Makecode Arcade to design and code arcade games. Pupils get to play and share the games they create on a handheld gamepad, the Meowbit. Over the year pupils will learn about the key principles, conditionals and variables, understand and create different functions, and learn how to set up the fundamentals of game design – environments, sprites, and projectiles.

Boardgame Club is a free space to have a blast and sharpen skills. We play classics and discover new favourites, all while learning strategy, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. It’s a fun way to unwind after school and boost brainpower!

Table Tennis is a hugely popular club at the Junior Branch. For nine years, Urban Table Tennis has been coaching boys to excel in the game. Our club offers opportunities to compete within the school, inter-school, and nationally, or simply enjoy the fun of friendly matches.

Fencing Club is a thrilling place for pupils to build focus, discipline, agility, and mental strength in a fun, competitive environment. Taught by Olympic fencer Curtis Miller, Fencing develops strategic thinking, self-confidence, and lightning-fast reflexes – skills that can be applied far beyond the piste.

Origami Club is a place where creativity, fun, and learning come together in the beautiful art of paper folding. The club introduces children to the wonderful world of origami. Our club aims to teach children this traditional craft in an engaging and enjoyable way, promoting fine motor skills, concentration, and patience, all while having a fantastic time.

Creative Sewing explores the intricate world of stitching and threading. Our engaging activities focus on mastering embroidery techniques and experimenting with different stitching patterns, designs and encouraging both creativity and skill growth.

Our four Rock Bands provide an opportunity for Years 5 and 6 pupils to collaborate and perform. Under the expert guidance of our electric guitar teacher, pupils develop their skills on guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums. Through dedicated rehearsals from January, the groups build anticipation for our thrilling Summer Rock Concert.

The General Knowledge Club sharpens minds through weekly online quizzes, expanding their knowledge and always leaving haven’t learnt something new. Boys will then be selected for the school’s general knowledge team to participate in the Nationals
