The main point of entry to UCS Junior Branch is at 7+ (Year 3). A small number of boys will be admitted at 8+ (Year 4).
Approximately 60 boys aged 7 will be admitted into three classes each year. Registration takes place between 1st January and 30th September, the year before entry.
All 7+ applicants will be invited to the School during the Autumn Term in small groups. Parents will have the opportunity to meet the Headmaster and be taken on a tour of the School by him, whilst their sons are given listening/discussion exercises and a reading assessment. The 7+ exam will be held on Friday 6thJanuary 2023.
All 8+ applicants will sit the exam on Monday 5th December 2022. Results will be posted on 14th December 2022 and all successful candidates will be interviewed on Friday 6th January 2023.
A confidential report is requested from each candidate's current school and this plays an important part in the selection procedure. The entrance assessment in January will consist of English and Maths tests. Tests will be administered in classrooms a teacher who will also observe social interaction and behaviour. The boys will have the opportunity to play, and will be given light refreshments during the three-hour period they attend the school.
Open Evenings are held each year and parents are advised to bring their sons to one of them. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the School with a pupil, talk to staff and meet the Headmaster. You will find the Open Evening dates listed in the Prospectus & Open Evening section.
