Initially Professor Tyerman joined the Council of UCS as the Oxford University Representative to Council. When Oxford decided to withdraw their nomination to UCS Christopher agreed to remain as an independent member. Christopher was born very close to the School and spent the first twenty years of his life living near the Finchley Road. He has been a tutor at Oxford since the 1970’s where he has been involved in Admissions and Outreach, combining this for a time with teaching at Secondary level as Head of History at Harrow. Currently Professor for the History of the Crusades at Oxford and a Fellow at Hertford College, he has published extensively on the Crusades and also has written an institutional history of Harrow School.
