Approximately 25 boys aged 13 will be admitted each year. We are now accepting applications for 13+ (2022).
13+ entry for September 2019, 2020 and 2021
The process for 13+ (2019) entry concluded in Spring 2017 and the process for 13+ (2020) entry concluded in Spring 2018. A Waiting List is being held for both these cohorts, and parents of boys who are on the list will be duly contacted in the event of an offer of a conditional place being turned down or withdrawn.
The deadline for applications to join at 13+ in 2021 has now passed. This process will conclude in Spring 2019.
13+ entry for September 2022 and beyond
Applications for 13+ 2022 are required by the deadline of Monday 23rd September 2019. Candidates will sit an Entrance Examination by late November. This will take the form of the Common Pre-Test (or CPT), which is administered by the Independent Schools Examination Board (ISEB). ISEB also administer the Common Entrance examination taken by prep school students in Year 8. The test is online, adaptive and is taken in the familiar surroundings of your son’s existing school. It consists of four parts and takes about two-and-a-half hours to complete; English (25 minutes), Mathematics (50 minutes), Verbal Reasoning (36 minutes) and Non-Verbal Reasoning (32 minutes). This test is used by a number of other London independent day schools, but boys sit the test only once, regardless of the number of such schools for which an application has been entered.
The results of this examination will be important in deciding the candidates asked to return for our Interview and Taster Day. As well as giving the boys the opportunity to sample life at UCS by taking part in a classroom activity, they will meet with a member of the teaching staff for a short interview. The classroom activity will take the form of paired or small group work leading to a discussion or summary presentation to a senior member of staff.A confidential report is requested from each candidate’s current school and plays an important part in the assessment procedure. Please note that all offers of places are conditional upon acceptable performance in Common Entrance examinations taken in the boy’s prep school at the end of Year 8. A Waiting List is held, and parents of boys who are on the list will be duly contacted in the event of an offer of a conditional place being turned down or withdrawn.
Please note that we do not allow candidates to apply simultaneously at both 11+ and 13+. Families must decide which one of these points of entry they wish to apply for. We are happy to offer further advice on this; please call the Admissions Office or email us if you would like to discuss the matter further, or alternatively please attend one of our Open Evenings in September of the year of application (i.e. when the applicant is in Year 6 or earlier). Note that we can only commute an application for an 11+ place to an application for a 13+ place if the relevant application deadline for 13+ has not passed.
The registration deadline for 13+ (Year 9) entry in September 2022 is Monday 23rd September 2019. The assessment date will be in late November. Please be aware that recruitment for 13+ entry in 2019, 2020 and 2021 has closed.
