Recipes For Success

The Story of the UCS Cook Book by Joe Grabiner (Rtj)

Once upon a time there lived three young bears who went by the names of Ben, Benji and Joe. They were good friends who went to school together in the far away kingdom of NW3. One day one of the bears had an idea. This special idea consisted of the hope to unite their entire school in one project whilst making many thousands of pounds for a great charity called KIDS. The boys knew they couldn’t do it by themselves so they went to see a wise turtle by the name of Mr Roberts. The wise turtle encouraged them and gave them guidance and within no time the plans had been drawn up to create a cookbook to be sold during the community action half term.

The charity that the bears chose was the London based charity ‘Kids’. It is an organization that strives to support other young disabled bears and their families. It does this by running activity groups, building playgrounds, and taking the children and their families on holidays.

Within a matter of weeks members of staff, students (both young and old), and parents had donated dozens of recipes. The project started to gain momentum and soon the most important people in the land were eager to donate their favourite recipes to the book. The Prime Minister, the Mayor of the city, famous chefs and other celebrities had got involved and the book was filled with culinary delights from many cultures and ethnicities. The recipes needed carefully editing and the bears received so many not all of them were able to fit into the publication.

A creative crocodile called Guy and all his friends set to work designing the book. After many attempts and edits a finished product had been created, and my lord was it beautiful. When receiving the book from Guy one of the young bears was reduced to tears. The next step was to think of a name. It had been many hours in tiring meetings before one of the turtle's friends said, “UCS! SUCCESS! RECIPE BOOK!” The exclamation took some explanation but after that we all thought it was perfect and so “Recipes for sUcCeSs” was born.

The lavish and colourful 250-page book is available from Monday 3rd November and can be purchased with either cash or a cheque at the school office or by credit card by calling the school credit card hotline on 020 7433 2145. The book costs £10 and all proceeds will be donated to KIDS. It is filled with family friendly recipes and more sophisticated ideas for culinary feats that are friendly and easy to make. All the recipes taste great! The bears certainly think so.

The bears would like to thank the contributors to the book:
