Sport
Sport - particularly team-games - is an important feature of life at UCS. All students will have two sessions of sport a week. Our aim is that pupils will enjoy themselves, will grow fitter and will learn from the exhilaration of shared endeavour.
The range of sports available is wide: from rugby, soccer and cricket to fencing, basketball and tennis. All students have the chance to represent the school. There is an annual programme of overseas touring covering a variety of sports.
Music
UCS has a thriving music department with a busy extra-curricular schedule and an excellent academic record. Our concert series has over 30 events a year, from informal lunchtime concerts through to main school concerts, allowing performance opportunities for all the school ensembles in addition to solo recitals.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
The Duke of Edinburgh (D of E) scheme has only recently been reintroduced to UCS, but is already proving immensely popular and many students are taking part. It is designed to develop participants' self-belief and self-confidence in addition to teamwork and problem solving skills. Currently, the Bronze award is open to the Remove year and the Silver to the Transitus. At both levels each participant must undertake four activities; a skill, a physical recreation, a service and an expedition.
Clubs and Societies
UCS is proud of the wealth of extra-curricular clubs and societies that meet throughout the school year. All subjects of the curriculum are represented and visits by distinguished academics, commentators, politicians, journalists, novelists and poets often speak to our students during the year. In keeping with the UCS ethos, students will often take it upon themselves to set up new clubs leading to a plethora of film clubs, religious societies, comedy clubs, gaming societies and reading groups that come and go from year to year reflecting the shifting enthusiasm of our pupils.
