The Centenary Choir was founded in 2008 as part of the school’s centenary celebrations marking the move from Gower Street to Hampstead. Membership is open to students—past and present, parents—past and present, staff, friends of the school and local residents. It was decided after the very successful performance of Handel’s Messiah in April 2008 to continue to run the choir on a more regular basis.
The choir meets on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 - 9.30.
No audition is required but the ability to sing in tune, hold an independent part, and above all, be enthusiastic, are the only requirements. We will be running a series of lessons starting at 7.00 pm from 23 September 'Learn to Sight-Sing - Dispel the Mysteries of Those Dots on the Page!'
Termly fees are £20 plus a voluntary contribution of £20. Reduced subscriptions for students and others on low income are available. The donation is strictly voluntary and allows the choir to continue to put on wonderful performances and cover the cost of visiting musicians.
The choir is directed by John Bradbury, the Director of Music at UCS, and Tim Ward, who is the specialist singing teacher at the school, will act as the accompanist and vocal coach.
Sessions will be devoted to singing technique as well as learning individual parts for the works to be performed.

There are vacancies in all parts, although more tenors and basses would be especially welcome.
“Since singing is so good a thing, I wish all men would learn to sing.”
William Byrd (1535—1623)
